Varsity

Green Terrace

Photo of VarsityPart of the Barracuda Groupís chain of Varsity pubs. This venue mixes modern exposed brick and metalwork with traditional pub soft furnishings. An unusual design causes you to enter the venue on an open landing between two levels. The larger room is downstairs with an impressive L-shaped bar and ample seating booths. Upstairs has a high ceiling giving a very airy feel. An audio visual system provides a random selection of music.

Not really happy with this place after all of the years Ive been going. The standard is slipping - ever thought even bout a indie night?

sarah hindmarsh   17th September 10
quality place! clean and fair priced drinks, doorstaff were friendly and had good crack, but the scouse bar staff was really confrontational and snappy.

Jennifer   12th September 10
Mondays have died down a lot, not keen on the music and the drinks offers aren't as good as what they used to be. Still love going in during the day for food and a few drinks with the girls :)

its saturday ad Ive just come in and went on facebook but thought I would commrnt on this bar. Ivr had a great time here (very drunk)but loved the music. my friends were saying aaswell they had a right laugh and good time. thankfyou

Certainly agree we Tom. On saturday we enjoyed your bar for 3 hours which shall I say is unusual for us as we do like to ponder around the bars as soon as we have had one drink. I can understand that it would be our age as mentioned from the message from Tom but once the rappy booming music most probably from todays radio came on we had to leave. All bars and clubs play this I agree but I personally feel that if you were to play some 80s you would certainly keep our age interested. Although the kids were dancing to this music which was not our taste im sure they would be considerate. Something to think about at least! Thank you

Its well good in here Keep it cheesy theres no other places like it. Muisc is so serious now must be my age - 41. Bring back the 80s & 90s

Ellis   18th July 10
I agree. Sunderland and south shields are dead at the moment.

Shaun   14th July 10
Just because the sunderland town centre is dead now doesnt spoil it for me. I really like coming here whether it is busy or not. It is big with plenty of space to move. I can also bring my lass here and sit in the seats. The staff and music is good. I always see new faces staying in here for hours. It has a real nice atmosphere about it. Nice one Varsity.

Louise   5th July 10
Just dropping a message to say 'thanks' really enjoyed it here on Saturday. x

Question   28th June 10
Varsity is an american term name of college/university. Students at St Peters R mental about the indie scene. Wudnt you abviusly think that varsity wud try to attract students because of its name? INDIE NIGHT PLEASE! kaiser chiefs, stone roses, morrisey, killers, smiths

charlie   24th June 10
It is expensive without a card though. Still i like the place if planning to meet there and someone brings a card!

DJ Ian G @ Varsity Re Isabel   22nd June 10
I agree that i dwell back and forth in time to cater for the older cowd - thats my job. I have stacks of upfront music such as funky house, progressive house, tech house etc but this might drive a lot of the varsity crowd away as there are many types & ages to consider! I play all types of commercial music from 1980s - pres.
